  3. samuel gauthier: To paraphrase Mr. T in Rocky III, “Don’t give this chump no stamps, give him a calendar!”

Not only the company but the founder are still around it seems.

  4. Samuel: It’s a very old ad, reprinted here from a magazine from 1952. “To meet demand Sundman had to hire 20 new full-time employees in 1950 and 1951, during which time he exhausted the world’s supply of the Hitler stamps…”

Firebrand: This seems to have NOT been one of the evil stamp companies that followed with stamps sent on spec later (and bills for those later still…)

I believe I’ve mentioned here before that I made the down payment on my house due to stamps – misprinted stamps which I happened to have purchased several unbroken sheets of through dumb luck.

  5. Toronto: Yeah, once upon a time young Firebrand got in trouble by sending away for a “free” banana shaped stamp from Tonga. Soon thereafter the other stamps began to arrive every month. Along with the bill. And me with no source of income.

  6. A banana shaped stamp? Sounds appealing.

  7. Toronto: It was. Actually the first peel and stick stamp. Wasn’t worth the trouble I got into to with Firebrand, Senior.
