I don’t know much about furs. How many Chinchillas does it take to make a coat?!?! Fifty? One hundred? Five hundred for a full length coat?

However much it takes the price is never enough i mean your taking a LIFE!!!

Just think, the Chinchilla you skin might have written the Great American Novel or cured a disease.

MuFFinzslol probably didn’t read that last one since they threw red paint on their monitor in protest.

Ever met a chincilla in person? Mean, nasty, evil-tempered little rats. Not much of a loss, though I will say killing something you’re not going to eat is a bit bad for the karma.
Leather on the other hand makes no end of sense as a garment as well as for use in industrial equipment. If you’re going to eat it use it all.

My chin’s name is Andy. He lived through Katrina with me. He is the most even tempered, funny and loving pet I’ve ever had, but is now very scared of wind. He’s out a lot, but heads right for his cage when the wind starts to howl. He’s trained to go either in his cage or the bathtub. He wakes me up every day, looking for his breakfast, a break from his timothy hay and pellets – he loves spoon size shredded wheat and will start to weave my hair if I don’t wake up fast enough. He flew with me to Washington State after the hurricane and when I picked up his carrier at the airport, all he did was give me a really dirty look, a nip then settled in my lap. I cannot imagine anyone wanting to hurt one of these social and sweet critters.

Chinchillas are beautiful very intelligent creatures. I can’t imagine doing this to any of mine.

I don’t know about you guys, but I personally love my chinchilla coat. I mean, it keeps me warm in winter, and hey, I heard they make a tasty soup.

I’m a fifty year old man and very lonely. When I go home, my pet chinchilla Fluffy squeals with what appears to be delight upon seeing me. Little does it know how lonely I REALLY AM…

These animals are loving, intelligent, and have their own personalities like us. No coat would be worth killing any of these awesome creatures. You should be ashamed of your “easy” cash crop.

Colleen: You do realize this ad is 55 years old, and that I don’t actually sell chinchillas, right?

Comment by SYANNE — September 11, 2008 @ 4:22 pm
SYANNE: I’m not sure what you are saying I did wrong. How was I rude? The ad is 55 years old. Have you actually looked at any of the other pages on this site? I post tons of stuff every day, it doesn’t mean I’m promoting those items. I posted this item as well. That doesn’t mean I endorse kilt wearing.
Comment by Charlie — September 11, 2008 @ 5:25 pm
sorry
Comment by SYANNE — September 13, 2008 @ 2:13 pm
Anyone that would endorse anything like this should be treated exactly the same as they treat the poor animals. It takes dozens of chinchillas to make one of these ‘wonderful, warm’ coats you wear. Do you have any IDEA how these animals are treated before they are used to make garments?! How would you like to be stuck in a room the size of a port-a-potty, left completely alone, with no one talking, looking, or touching you, and then just have your neck snapped to end you ‘wonderful’ life? Or better yet plugged into an electrical socket?! Chinchillas need space to move and room to jump, these farms lock them in cages barely big enough for them to turn around in and nearly touching their heads. All of these cages are stacked on top of eachother and they don’t even keep more than one to a cage so they could at least socialize with eachother. No one ever touches them because it might damage the quality of their fur. And then to completely destroy the idea of HUMANE TREATMENT. They either hold their head and tail and then yank up to snap their necks or they connect electrodes to their ear and foot and then PLUG THEM INTO A WALL!!!! I don’t care if you don’t support the practice, by posting this you very obviously find it either intresting, or amusing, something people would be interested in. Wether or not you would personally buy the coat or kill the creature isn’t in question. You are the SUPPORTING idea buy posting it!

ok people…I’m against killing animals for fashion too….I wouldn’t hesitate to shoot a deer though, cuz their meat is delish…but SERIOUSLY…the ad is over half a century old…give the lady a break, she already said she’s not promoting the breeding/killing/pelting of Chinchillas. CHILL.
Comment by bobonono — November 17, 2008 @ 4:26 pm
I am DISGUSTED!!!!!! How in your right mind could you kill such an adorable sweet little creature for a freaking coat. There is plenty of cotton out there to keep you horrible murderers warm. And I am not referring to the ad, I am referring to you jerks that have commented.

I think it is cruel to wear chinchillas.all of you that are protesting are right, chinchillas are smart, adorable, and kind.they may have the softest fur in the world, but that doesnt give us the right to kill them!if you wouldn’t do it to an human, dont do it to an animal.you evil cruel and sick people need to get a life, wearing fur is not only cruel,it is gross!it is like wearing meat, then it gets all rotten, and it smells bad!ew!people who wear fur should stop right now.

Do they actually teach English in schools anymore? While Rachel certainly does not have the worst grammar or spelling in this thread she does win my award for the best impression of Charley from the book Flowers for Algernon. I remember being tickled pink by the the chapter where he first learns about punctuation and every, other word, is , followed by, a comma. period or exclamation point!

Dang!
I can’t find any clips of SNL’s Rovco Chinch Ranch.
It’s a blender (a separator, actually) that produces pelts and hamburger meat.
Mmmmm! That’s great chinch!
Comment by jayessell — November 26, 2008 @ 7:49 pm
I like how the price tag looks like a chain saw.
A huge, gore-covered chain saw.
Tearing into the helpless flesh of an innocent chinchilla, whose suffering this blog endorses, along with GLOBAL WARMING which will be caused by all the carbon-monoxide outgassing from the chain saws.
Which are also bad like this blog because they (chain saws) are used to cut down trees. Take the b out of blogger and you have logger! Coincidence?
O, the horror!
(PS: Eat more chinchillas!)

I bought a chinchilla for my daughter near 5 years ago . . . great pet! My uncle bought a chinchilla coat for my aunt around the same time . . . great coat! Really people, as cool a pet as it may make, it’s an animal. An animal can not have a PERSONality . . it’s not a person! Now I will admit, I like my daughter’s chinchilla quite a bit more than most of the people I know, but I’m an anti-social, people phobic, animal eating, leather wearing, slightly crazy American. The only reason humans are civilized is because we say we are. Here’s a little reality check . . . humans are the most UNcivilized animal on the planet. We terrorize EVERY living thing including other humans. Having said all that, I’m just glad that we evolved with thumbs and a superior brain and that we wear chinchilla coats and the chinchillas don’t wear human coats!

I raise chinchillas and I do euthanize them humanely. They feed my dogs and I process the pelt. They are not wasted as the body is eaten, the pelt is used and the animals are well cared for.
All of you that do not agree to euthanizing chinchillas and using their pelt, you have right to your opinion, but I have a right to mine. We live in a free country and nobody is going to tell me I’m wrong. If it is unlawful to euthanize my chinchilla for food and pelt, I’ll stop, if not, I won’t. By the way, I do make money off the chinchillas and I am glad I do.

Sorry folks, best I could do was The Bassomatic http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Ni.....ic/278763/
And the way all of the idiots screaming about skinning people alive to show their compassion for rodents from an AD FROM 1952 reminds me of Eric Rudolph representing his sanctity for human life by planting bombs.
But you made Charlie laugh which is a good thing.
