This is really friggin' cool. For the longest time I wondered how the Motograph, (moving text sign) worked, I saw a silent movie made in 1928 many years ago and was thinking how they got the text to move. Same as this cool sign. The grand daddy of Times Square in NY.

Hi Joe!

I vaguely remember your grandfather. My dad mentioned him. I was a little girl then. This sign was called the "Wundersign". I wasn't born yet..but my half sister was... Patricia Latz Webster. I haven't been able to reach her. Don't know if she is still alive or not.
Dad invented the Miss America pageant..where he met his first wife.

Hi,

Great article. Do you know anymore about Harry Latz? My Great Grandfather, Arthur Chadwick, worked with in advertising (Chadwick - Latz Ltd) and I would like to find out more on this.

Thanks

I suppose those extra holes are for delay. If you want to do animated signs, you need to make sure that you are able to pause at a certain point. You could use those 3 holes to get 8 delay times.
