MOUSE TRAPS HAVE MANY USES
BOYS practicing with air rifles like to shoot at targets that will reward them with action when hit. When the target shown is struck, it will leap into the air with a loud snap. Target holder is soldered to trigger of mouse trap.
ABOVE IS SHOWN an efficient burglar alarm made with a two-for-five mouse trap. The trap is provided with an electrode in the form of a small square of sheet brass which is placed at a point where the snapper will strike it The wire frame forms the other electrode. A small piece of black thread is attached to the trigger and stretched across the open window or door to be protected. Prowler unwittingly strikes the thread, setting off the alarm. Right: A spring bill holder for kitchen or office. Here the spring member of the trap acts as the clip. A thick pile of papers may be held in this manner.PHOTO FANS will find that a mouse trap makes an excellent holder for 35mm. film while drying. Left: A fire alarm can be made using the same hookup as the burglar alarm described above. In this case the snapper is separated from the electrode by a small piece of paraffin. Should excessive heat melt the wax, the electrodes will come together, setting off the alarm bell.——Raymond F. Yates.
