20 Imp gallons would be 200 pounds, plus the kettle's 15, for a total of 215 pounds.

Firebrand: "A pint's a pound" isn't true, however. The "Imperial" gallon is 160 ounces, so an Imperial quart is 40 oz and a pint is 20 oz. (Those are fluid measures but a fluid ounce of water weighs very close to an ounce of weight.)

US Pints, being older than Imperial pints, are 16 oz.

Of course, the UK (and Canada and most of the Commonwealth) are metric now, so Imperial gallons aren't as common as they once were.

Actually Charlie got it right at the top of the article. 8 pints to a gallon and a "pints a pound the world around". Add that to the empty weight of fifteen pounds. Ergo, 175 pounds.

I wonder how many pounds it weighs full? I could see some sort of support rack for it to allow pouring when full.
