Here's an unlikely website with answers, Stuart: http://www.jamaicanbobsled.com/equipment.html

This design is illegal for several reasons: "For bobsleds, it is forbidden to use plexiglas, transparent material and any material which may splinter as a result of an impact. The rear part of the bobsleds must be open. "

What are the rules and regulations governing the manufacture of the bobsled. i.e. runner springs , materials, side-buffers , suspension etc. etc.

As an FYI; You can 'bobsled' at various winter resorts that have olympic training facilities. In my case the venues from the 2002 Salt Lake City venues are still available and used for tourism. NOT that I'm planning on building a bobsled or even streamlining one :o)
