There used to be one in downtown Lancaster, PA. It was torn down in 1964. The space is still there replaced with a regular parking lot.

There used to be one in downtown Houston, Tx when I was a child in the 50′s. I watched in amazement as the robot took our car up several floors and park it in a pigeon hole.

There used to be one in downtown Fort Lauderdale. It was torn down in 1969.

In NYC alley-wide parking lots exist for rich people’s Porches and weekend cars, and they stack the cars two or three high using simple hydraulic lifts and manually driving the bottom car away, to let the next one down. Car rental places also use a kind of manual labor bumper-to-bumper magical chairs scheme. It adds maybe five minutes to your wait, but returning a car is just a quick park and sign a dotted line.
