		<description>There were two-sided toasters before this, but clockwork ones never made any sense to me. The bimetal coil/latch release method that has dominated the industry since the 1950s (at least in the low to medium end) seems so obvious it&#039;s amazing they took so long to settle on it.

Then again, I remember an uncle of mine who insisted upon using a two slice single sided &quot;flip down&quot; toaster in the late 1960s, or maybe longer. And in a family of seven, no less. Then again, &quot;toast duty&quot; took two kids out from underfoot.</description>
