I doubt that ladys' hat will stay on!

I thought I saw a newsreel of this.
I can't remember if the seats were 'escape pod' like closed capsules or open seats.
I  &lt;i&gt;almost&lt;/i&gt; remember them rotating out of the plane. 

To us in the 21st century, we wonder about the great expense of the parachutes and having multiple doors in the fusilage.

That and lawsuits.

A modern version would have closed capsules mechanically positioned over a hatch in the floor that functions like a Bomber's Bomb Bay Doors.

They should have that in modern airliners, except with an airlock to prevent depressurizing the main cabin.
