I have worked in the construction industry for nearly thirty years. I always worked hard to advancement / supervision. Yet I was a deardevil and did many stupid and risky things with only minor injuries but certianly close to death situations. I always took care of my own safety needs without incident. Most of my injuries were by somebody else being negligent. I have witnessed many bad injuries and deaths of all could have been avoided. To me the biggest cause of construction accidents is that companies are more modivated to meet schedule than to maintian safety and quality. I have found that the average worker is not self motivated and require a push by there supervisers. This causes accidents. To me make every employee feel important and valued to the project and this will give them the will to work hard produce a quality product. This alone will help meet a schedule with better safety and quality.

I have seen too many workers injured and even killed working with unsafe construction equipment. It seems to be all about the bottom dollar to most manufacturers which is why you have to be very careful when purchasing new machinery.

I have been in the construction business for 30 years and have had some injuries. What I have found is that most injuries in construction are someone does something dumb because they are going to fast or they are not focused on what they are doing. I have seen most hand injuries working in the winter while wearing gloves. Your brain doesn't always compute that there is actually a hand inside of that glove. I have seen people shoot themselves with nailguns and cut themselves with saws because of this. I watched a guy on the crew shoot himself in the thigh with a framing nail because he was simply was not paying attention to where the business end of a nail gun was. A good friend of mine, a roofer, 52 years old fell off a 2 story roof job of mine and shattered his ankle in several places. Because of this he was out of work for many months. He couldn't deal with not be able to work and not knowing when he could return to work. He was found in his truck one morning after eating his gun! Construction is dangerous. My experience has taught me to always be aware and focused when using power tools, scaffolding, ladders and even hand tools. A 20 once framing hammer if it slipped out of your hand while in full swing could easily kill your helper. Be safe!

No mention of "Asbestos - The Mircle Mineral!"

I had heard that today the most dangerous occupation is office work!

Maybe that's just for women office workers.
(Their husbands or boyfriends come to their job to kill them.)
No mention of farming.
Maybe it's more dangerous now that it's mechanized.
