I've followed both anti and pro-gun campaigns and find that generally people who are anti-gun are sadly misinformed about how many gun laws are already on the books - and thus erroneously continue to demand more strict gun legislation. That does nothing but take away rights - if that is your goal, then I pity you.

I am not "pro-gun", its just doesn't make any logical sense to be anti-gun. It doesn't accomplish anything positive, in fact it wastes energy and causes more lives to be lost. What am I missing here? When innocents die on the wrong end of a gun, the possession of the gun is never legal for that person to begin with, so how has the dumb law helped?

It has been proven wrong time and time again, yet it amazes me how many people stubbornly cling to the idea that more gun legislation will some how stop violence. Logically, it is a complete fallacy. And from implementation perspective, has failed completely. What more proof do you need?

But, I guess, people will always focus on what drives them the most emotionally.

"hijacked by people who don’t quite get the concept of a 'well-regulated militia' and think it means M-60s and AK-47s for everyone."

The M-60 and AK-47 are fully-automatic weapons (unless you are talking about semi-auto copies that are functionally no different than thousands of other semi-auto hunting rifles) which are strictly regulated (but perfectly legal) by the National Firearms Act of 1934. The NRA supports the National Firearms Act, and no registered NFA weapon has ever been used in a crime.

Oh yeah, we gotta do something to stem the tide of all those 27 pound, belt fed M-60 machineguns being used in the execution of crimes.

I learned to handle firearms through an NRA safety class when I was a kid in the 60s, that was described as part of their primary mission before they hijacked by people who don't quite get the concept of a "well-regulated militia" and think it means M-60s and AK-47s for everyone.

Why, is that a cannon in your pants? Or are you just happy to see me?

Although this isn't the forum for a discussion of gun laws, I can't resist your last comment; even if you could conceal a cannon under your clothes, I think carrying a burning torch to light the cannon's fuse would be a dead giveaway.

Fair enough. I think I tend to have trouble separating the legitimate hunting safety programs of the NRA with the insane everyone should be able to carry a concealed cannon part.
