BABY TANK IS BUILT BY BOY TO NAVIGATE RIVER

Similar in appearance to the land tanks used during the war, a queer boat has been built by a boy in England. It is propelled by a paddle like a canoe and provides room for only one passenger. The novel craft attracted much attention when it appeared during a regatta on the River Thames.

  3. Some would call it the alternative love boat.

As we all know the usage of a word can change over time. I was in third grade in 1958 and queer was in one of our weekly spelling lessons. There was a story in each lesson that contained the words we were to learn that week. I well remember the passage for the word queer. “The queer man stood behind the fruit stand.” I doubt you would see that in a third grade spelling book now.
