The Allies had an anti Nazi station pretending to be run by renegade Germans. Near the end of the war they said which bridges were passable (they weren't) and which ones had been blown up (they weren't). When the actual front passed over the radio station's imaginary location, they played sound effects and pulled the plug. Look up “Black Propaganda”.
