The Hammesfahr&#039;s were never in glass blowing &quot;for centuries&quot;. In fact, Hermann (born 1845) only brought his techniques to the US circa 1879, Where and how in Rhineland, Germany he obtained his glass skills is not certain, but is probable he did not possess them when he first returned to Germany from the US in 1868.

note: Hermann originally came to US 1864, fought in Civil War, and returned, as stated above, to Germany in 1868.</description>
