A telephone that can be carried about and used anywhere without connecting wires is a possibility in the near future. Research on the project has been carried on for several years by the Southern California Telephone Company and, according to latest reports, is now nearing practical application.





And guess what, It’s only the size of a briefcase! and the batteries have to be relaced every 5 minites of talk time!

55-60 years kind of stretches the definition of “nearing”.
Seriously, could these have been the prototype of the WWII two-way radio?

Actually 34 years as the first cell phone went into operation in 1973.
I have an ex-brother-in-law whose father worked on this in the 1930’s and made a fortune. Yes the article was talking about the development of the handy talkie used in WW2.
