1. Very carefully, I’d assume. As for getting OUT, at least the rescue crew wouldn’t need jaws of life – wire cutters would do.

2. It looks like the right gyro wheel has a wheelchair-type handrim attatched. In case of the engine not having enough torque to get things underway?

This article says Marion, Ohio, but the bit from Everyday Science says Marion, Iowa, which is local to me. I need to do a little digging and see if he was a local Iowa crack-pot.

This site says it was built, but doesn’t say if it was ever run. two 500 pound flywheels for gyros is a bit intimidating though.
