Hot Spot made when the 10-volt infrared lamp above directs its heat rays at one point reaches 1,500 degrees and lights cigarettes held one inch away. The unusual lighter was demonstrated by Westinghouse.

  1. 1500 degrees is certainly impressive. I don’t think I would stick my face any where near that kind of heat.

  2. Probably only 1500 degrees right at the focus point, which for safety’s sake I hope was inside the cone. Still, probably wouldn’t want to look directly into it. Bet you could do something similar today with an IR LED.
