Cuppa Steam: Ether jumping was broadcasting primarily international content from a lot of different locations other than the studio. A clarification may be found in this preview from the issue immediately proceeding this one:

Next Month
The rapid strides of radio in recent years make possible world girdling hook-ups which, in the space of an hour transport you around the world into yesterday, today and tomorrow. What goes on behind the scenes in these ether-jumping programs makes an interesting story which you'll find in the November issue. It is titled "Ether Jumpers Never Sleep" and is illustrated in Coloroto.

So imagine you sitting at home listening to feeds on New Years Eve from countries where the New Year has arrived, you listen to New Years in Time Square and then listn to broadcasts from a location where its still the previous year. All without you changing your station.

I believe that the upper left hand picture may be of Jesse Owens at the Munich Olympics in 1936!

This may, in fact, be a significant historical photograph! The Nazi's were beat by a black distance runner, Jesse Owens. The 1936 Olympics was where Germany was showcasing Aryan superiority only to be embarrassed by the (white aryan) German atheletes being beat by a Black American. Who would think to look in an old technology magazine about "ether jumpers" for a photo like this.....

I'm not clear on exactly what an ether jumper is (or was)? What this a reporter/engineer who traveled around the world searching for stories to broadcast over shortwave radio back to NBC headquarters?
