		<description>The Census Bureau, and the TIGER geospatial data system it developed, also were a major help in the development of GIS and can be called an important precursor to Google Maps and Earth and systems like that.

And yet, despite having worked with the Bureau as a state-level partner for many years now, and bearing them the best will in the world, I have to say that the opening line of this article made me laugh: 

"Now that the Census Bureau has been made a permanent branch of the government, it attains the dignity and importance which its merits deserve."</description>
