Goldilocks - what a wonderful story! I always used to wonder about couples who found each other this way - until my sister met her husband via a similar service about 10 years ago. It's good to hear they've been doing good for such a long time.

I'm sorry to hear of your recent loss.

Interesting article...I am searching for information regarding Compair Systems, Inc...also a computer dating service that originated in the 1960's. They were located at 194 Nassau St, Princeton, NJ 08540..touted as "The People Matching People" There was also a satellite office in California. I am a 68 year old African American female who met my "soul mate" in the late 60's and married him 6 months later. On our 1st date we spent the entire night talking, pouring our hearts out and realizing that we had found what we thought to be the impossible...true love..He was a student who became an engineer and I, a teacher. We became proud parents of 2 daughters. I recently lost my "soulmate" to cancer. We were fans of Gene Shalit but never saw the article on computer dating...My husband found the ad for "Compair in "Popular Mechanics" and I in a women's magazine..his little black book had expired post air force service and I was teaching in an elementary school with an all female staff...We were married 6 months after meeting. Can and does computer dating work ? A resounding yes ! We had evidently attended the same parties earlier, knew some of the same people and yet never reached out to each other...until...the computer we submitted our questionaire and $10 to decided that we should. Once we met, instantaneous chemistry...kudos to computers !!!

James J. Curley, Ed.D.: Mr Shalit wrote this article in 1966 and probably doesn't read this website.

So basically what your saying is that back in 1966 Mr. Shalit should have asked your father in law if he was a child molester before he wrote about him?
Does that make sense to you?

Dear MIT Community and Mr.Shalit:

However,” warns Dr. Snyder, “if this is taken too seriously, and it becomes institutionalized, it could be seen as a pressure for a safe, conformistic approach. In all relationships, there is a need for the unexpected; even that which is a little anxiety-laden.” Quoted in your article.

Dr. Benson Snyder is my father-in-law. I am married to his eldest daughter Ellen whom he raped when she was a teenager. He also sexually abused his three other daughters continuously during their childhood. He is an unrepentant sexual predator who has not yet been prosecuted for his crimes.

Mr. Shalit...you may want to use a more credible expert for such an article in the future.

I will restate the above under oath in any court in the land. I can be reached at:
286 Tubbs Dr.

I e-mailed Gene Shalit at the Today show so maybe he'll favor us with a comment (or a link to a 1960's era picture)

Note the photo caption at the bottom pf page 32 (page 3): that must be the model and actress Shelly Hack (b. 1947), whom readers of a certain age will remember from the Charlie perfume commercials.

That's a song from that time about computer dating. "Computer #3"

Computers and love are found far earlier in fact. For example the "Moonbillies" had a song named "'lectronic brain". I don't know the year, but I think that was earlier.
