Still, it's pretty cool and I'd like to see the lay-out of the inside.
I remember way back in the sixties when a couple of teens built a raft to "sail" around the coast of Florida. They had traveled from the Atlantic to Rainbow Springs on the Suwanee river before they were told they could go no further and they sold the raft to the campground's lifeguard. It had a plywood lean-to and a firepit made from either a comercial grill or a cut-off oil drum.
They displayed it to the campers before they sold it and yes, and I envied them!

I suspect that the editor found this drawing and made up a story to go with it that tied into a recent event. I say this for two reasons: a) I've seen rafts similar to this in Canada (I think in the northern museum in Yellowknife), and b) there appears to be ice floating in the water around the boat, something in short supply in the Philippines. That pine tree beside the dock is also somewhat non-Philippine.

So they assumed the wave would simply create rising water, like a flood, and not sweep everything away.

And they assumed that having bolo knives would allow them to repel anyone, including a stronger foe. That could have backfired.
