While this was a well written and supported article on stropping, Mr. Martin fails to explain how much stropping is required to maintain a shave ready edge. ie. the size of the strop and number of strokes, pressure being learned. DM

I recieved an old straight razor. It was my grand fathers, possiblly great grand fathers.I can not find any information about it.
On it, it says; "OUR BEST" then below that it says; "M. SELLER & CO." then below that, PORTLAND, ORE
It is silver in color, flower with leafs on each end, then some type of symble in the middle. The writting is on the handle of the blade itself..
My family has a very long history in Oregon and I am not really looking to sell it, just find out more about it.
If you can share some information with me, I would greatly appericate it.
Thank you for your time.

I'm waiting for the day when diamond-film coated razors are available. Even if was fifty
bucks for one, it would pay off in a few years. Reminds me of the sci-fi novel where the
hero had to make a quick escape and realized: "Damn, I lost my razor! I've had that since I started shaving!" Cheers -- MrG / http://www.vectorsite.net

Razors are now made of 'CARBIDE STEEL' and don't corrode.

http://www.madehow.com/Volume-5/Safety-Razor.html

Hair has tensile strength of COPPER.

Cutting that material every day will wear out any blade.
