Irene Gabriel: I think I can help you. You've obviously lost the remote so look for it in the couch and change the channel from TvLand

Sanford and Son?

Irene Gabriel: History is shooting guns and murder. Look at the bright side, most of the folks using guns on TV are doing it wrong, so there you go.
I think your post explains why television programmers believe the audience is mentally challenged.

Yes, where is television going??? The lineup of programs seems to be aimed at mentally challanged audiences! There are interminable repeats that go on and on adnauseum! Is there no relief from no-brainers like "Sanford & Son." "Everybody Loves Raymond," "The Nanny," "Everyone Hates Chris," PLEASE.....WHAT HAPPENED TO ENTERTAINMENT? why not have something educatonal as well as entertaining on for teenages on Saturdays.....dlassics that might teach them something of history instead of how to shoot a gun and murder!!
Your sense of civic duty to the next generation is sadly lacking!

I have a February 1938 Picture magazine.
It has a "Where Does TELEVISION Stand Today?"
It describes a fairly sophisticated 441 line 30 fps image on a 7 x 10 inch screen.
In 1938, that's like 1080i!
I'll try to flickr some of it.

Thanks Katey, I actually have a bunch of those as well that I haven't scanned. I recently got a large format scanner so I'll probably be posting them in the future.

I have some 'future of TV' articles from 1940s and 50s Better Homes and Gardens, is there any interest in my scanning them for this site?

The reason why I haven't started my own site of BHG scans (I have hundreds of 'em) is the old fashioned 'large format' magazine style doesn't fit on my scanner. But I could peice 'em together if there is demand.

Charlie, were there several articles each titled
"Where does Television stand today"?
One every year from 1929 to 1939?

You can search YouTube for examples of Mechanical Television.
Unfortunatly, the camcorders of today can't record the image
that a human eye (and brain) would see.
The black bars are an artifact of the recorder.

On a different note, here's a video from 1936...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Rpfek-F8Rw

I wonder if the entire film is available somewhere.
