I've been to Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry many, many times and it's my favorite museum. Lots of the exhibits have been there since I was a kid...and I'm 54 now! They have airplanes, including an airliner, hanging from the ceiling. A real German sub, coal mine, and a hundred other things. If you get a chance to visit it, please do.

The German Museum that gave Rosenwald the idea is not in Berlin but in Munich. It was and is the largest museum of science and technology in the world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutsches_Museum
