  2. I think these got squeezed out of business by the fake “Onion Ring” franchises that used a similar product - every Woolworth’s and Woolco had one between the check-outs and the exit. They used a potato or corn starch based chip with flavor added.

    “Shrimp Chips” from asian markets today are similar. The uncooked ones look like guitar picks, but they swell about 6000% when cooked.
