The planes that don’t (try to) redesign people

Design of every Douglas airliner starts at a single point, you—your comfort in the air, from breathing to eating to relaxing.
Basically, this is the result of the correct aerodynamic design of Douglas planes which you can recognize in the straight-line shape from the nose right back to the single tail.

This efficient shape means greater speed and range, more capacity for the extras that spell real luxury in the air. . . radiant heating, air conditioning, soundproof walls and windows. It gives a roomier interior, generous seat space, plenty of head room, more view from the big square windows. You get a steadier, more enjoyable ride.

Greater speed, comfort and dependability, with the efficiency that has kept fares low, is why Douglas, since 1935, has been the major factor in the world-wide growth of air travel.

DOUGLAS

Twice as many people fly Douglas as all other airplanes combined

  2. I wonder if this was a jab at the Lockheed Constellation which, although a beautiful plane, was definitely not shaped like a straight cylinder.

  3. The italicized text about the straight-line and single tail is definitely a jab at the Lockheed Constellation, which not only has a shortage of straight lines visible in its fuselage, but also has a triple vertical tail.

I don’t know which provided more interior room per passenger.

  4. I think at least half of the listed carriers are no longer in business.

  5. Not to mention that Douglas (McDonnell Douglas) is now part of Boeing

  6. I don’t know which provided more room per passenger, but they all provided more room than any current commercial airliner.
