		<description>Oddly enough, linear tracked tape (LTO, [linear tape open-standard] which grew out of DLT [digital linear tape] is the &quot;standard&quot; these days for data backup. Helical tape like VCRs use was a very short flash in the pan for data. It turned out to be &#039;write only&#039; - very hard to restore on a machine other than the one the wrote it, and sometimes even on the same machine.</description>
