Bob Thompson: I hate to rely on Wikipedia so I located the website of the company that manufactured the hydrofoil Disco Volante that you saw. It's real name was the <a href="http://www.rodriquez.it/corporate/reference_list/dettagli.php?id=2" rel="nofollow">Flying Fish</a>

Bob Thompson: The bad news is that the boat you saw later sank. The good news is that as is often the case in movies, two different boats were "the" Disco Volante. The actual yacht (for the long shots) is now owned by Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal (who bought it from Donald Trump).

More details<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disco_Volante_%28ship%29" rel="nofollow"> here </a>

I worked with my Father at Prowler Boat Company in Miami, where I lived. I always liked the Bond films and saw Thunderball. I was totally captivated by the Disco Volante and saw it come down the Miami river. I ran into the main building and shouted "It,s the boat in the Bond movie, but nobody looked but me but it made my day. Many years later I was at a Marina near down town Miami and there was the famous boat in the water tied up looking very bad in need of a paint job. I always wondered if anyone ever restored it and where it might be now

Nice article, one of the beauties of the web is that articles like this that would otherwise be lost forever to the general public become easily accessible.

Thunderball is easily one of the best Bond films, arguably the end of the era of the great Bond films. The gadgets didn't quite eclipse Jame Bond as they soon started to, particularly in the Roger Moore era.

This is so cool, even now (and why wouldn't it be). It's true that the gadgetry in the recent bond films are no where near as imaginative or technically awesome as they were back then (before I was born).

Hooray! Definitely the best Bond gadget movie, the brilliant jetpack..... Sean Connery IS Bond, I don't care what anyone says. Thunderball is easily my second favorite Bond flick -only Goldfinger tops it, due to the fantastic Pussy Galore. Need I say more?
We miss you, Q/D.L.!

thunderbolt?

My favorite Bond film - meant a lot seeing it with my Dad when I was ten years old. Felt I really had made it to a new level.
