There *WERE* attacks by 50-foot-tall beagles in the aftermath of this testing. All evidence of such attacks were covered up by the same people who moved those alien bodies from Area 51 to Ohio military bases. D0000000m on you!

I would also add that our understanding back then of the effects of nuclear radiation was still in its infancy, and that many tests and experiments were also done on humans, few of which would never get approval now. At the time this article was written, we were doing above-ground nuclear testing of weapons and routinely exposed soldiers to the blasts without knowing of the risks involved.

One of the interesting aspects of reading these old articles is that we see the foibles, failings, absurdity and foolishness of what appeared to be good decisions and ideas back then. Ignorance of risks isn’t the same thing as malice or heartlessness.

Um, who, exactly, is “condoning” this testing here? Reprinting the article only gives us an insight into what was going on in science half a century ago. No one has said anything in support of it or suggesting that it was a good thing.
