I', more worried by the coil of rope and what looks like a shovel or long handle axe in the boot with her.
That girl could be in trouble there!

I'm not sure exactly what that first picture of the lady in the trunk is supposed to illustrate, but I can't help noticing that amongst the junk in the trunk is the factory box for a Nikon F SLR, a top of the line professional 35mm camera of the day, used by many photojournalists. Back in 1970, the camera would have sold for somewhere around a quarter the cost of a new small car. Hardly the toy of a hippy.

It took a couple of decades for them to stop using special license plate nos. for rentals when it finally became apparent the criminals in S. Fla. were targeting tourists.
What sort of criminal would be stupid enough to rent a vehicle and leave a paper trail?
Oh. That's right, Timothy McVeigh...

I don't think the "watch ad" really is an ad. Seems more like a somewhat confused article about high-end watches.

Charlie - it's not an ad, it's an article.

In Canada, unlimited milage is normal for the big companies, (Avis, Hertz, etc) but not the smaller ones, who sometimes sneak a 100km per day limit on the contract. And pretty well all truck rentals are milage-extra. (It's also all but impossible to drop off a car in another province, but that's another issue.)

The article does become a bit less believable when you read the story about low miles on a month rental because of parking practice.

Eventually they went to unlimited mileage; it was probably cheaper than dealing with the wear from cars jacked up and running in reverse all night.

I remember my father rented a car in the early fifties. It had a metal box with several odometer dials all sealed up like a taxi-meter.

I'm not sure how much of this article to believe, but I've heard that some of the Shelbys were actually returned with a standard engine and no one noticed until it was too late.
