Incredibly interesting, especially considering that it was supposedly SEVEN stories tall until the 1906 earthquake leveled part of it.

Early IBM hard drives were called Winchesters - I think this place is haunted by the ghosts of dead data, killed by head crashes.

I lived a mile or so from the Wincherster Mystery House in the 50s and 60s. The house had not been restored in any way back then and was just a dusty, dirty, rambling oddity. You could tour the place for fifty cents.

I was surprised some years back when visiting the area to see the house more or less restored to it's orginal glory. I took the tour again just for old times sake and it was pretty much the same tour that I remembered as a kid. I'm not sure the place is worth the price of admission now but if you love the old rambling houses the Winchester House certainly tops any others.

I used to live nearby, and visited maybe 20 years ago. I liked the stairway that went up to a ceiling. She'd built a new room upstairs and left the stairway.

I've been here! It's just called the Winchester mystery house nowadays. It's pretty cool, especially the doors and stairs that lead to nowhere. All the bathrooms are built with glass walls, paranoia I guess :]
