I was tempted but instead found a bit of related Star Trek trivia. According to wkipedia, "Gene Roddenberry named Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek for one or both of the twin brothers Auguste and Jean Felix Piccard, and derived Jean-Luc Picard from their names." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auguste_Piccard Also, according to the same wiki article, Professor Piccard never descended in this particular device.
