I'm pretty sure it was one of the volumes of "Warplanes of the First World War". Dead-tree book that won't have been digitized yet (I did search) that did have a photo of the plane on the ground. The covering was transparent, but reflected sunlight so well from the slab-sided fuselage that the plane was actually visible from a greater distance than if just fabric-covered.
