Just discovered this site, thank you very much, it’s awesome! It was linked from Wikipedia about Russian cluster bombs. The cover of this “Whisper” has Sammy Davis Jr rejecting Kim Novak story and the last days of Erroll Flynn, now that sounds pretty juicy! I’ll have to search this site and see if I can find it, thanks again.

Does anybody here think this article may have been written largely to be provacative or was this an attempt at an earnest, informative, historical accounting?
Also, is the heavy slant of this article hysterical or terrible, sad or maybe just idiotic? I don’t know what to think. Reading it I found it very funny.
And not for nothin’, but personally I would rather have some sexual secrets revealed then be called beady eyed in a national publication.

When I think about the causes of WWI I always think of the Onion page from “Our Dumb Century” that reads something like(as I vaguely recollect) : “Austro-Hungary Declares War on France Declares War on Germany Declares War on Russia Declares War on Turkey Declares War on England Declares War on Bulgaria Declares War on Serbia”

From a quick web search, it appears that the account is mostly true, though it’s draped with purple prose and the importance of Redl’s treason seems greatly exaggerated. Blaming the war on him strikes me as completely unjustified.

though of course the fantastic details of orgies and venereal diseases are not listed there! Nowadays most people have grown out of the belief that a man must have some reason to “hate” women for him to be homosexual. One thing that interests me is that the intended audience seems to be female, judging from the advertisements for false breasts and two separate ways to hypnotise “the man you want” into marriage.

Actually I think it was the militaristic ambitions of the Austro-Hungary Empire that wrecked it. If you think about it World War One saw the end of the last of the powerful monarchies. That war just about saw the end of rule by birthright. The German, Autro-Hungarian, Russia, Ottoman Turk, and Italian monarchies all failed directly because of the effects of the war and brought forth a new era of rule by consensus. Well we all know how well some people handled that.
