Oh lord, another Marconiest. JMyint, don't you know that so called "radio" waves are just a liberal plot to try and discredit telepathy? The bible doesn't even mention them!

Prior to WW2 as it seems today few people had real understanding of complex scientific principles. They also misunderstand what the word theory means. A theory is the best possible explanation of a set of observations. Scientists don't come up with a theory then try to prove it. Scientists make observations, come up with a theory that explains those observations, then try to disprove the theory.

Thinking evolution is not true is a lot like saying radio is not true. After all it is just a theory that radio waves propagate through space and that information can be encoded on them. No one has actually seen radio waves just their effects. So we haven't actually seen an animal evolve doesn't mean we don't see the effects.

In the late 19th and early 20th century there was a lot of speculation about missing links. The idea of missing links is now thought to be more than just a little foolish. Scientist are now pretty sure that evolution is a little more subtle and a lot more complex than many of the early ideas. Now the idea is more that multiple small changes occur over long periods of time. Environment and luck may play a bigger part than natural selection and 'survival of the fittest'.

samantha: Evolution has a lot more going for it than an article from 1931. Let's try this on for size; my opinion is that your opinion is dumb.

i think the whole evolution thing is no true. everybody is entitled to thier own opinions, and religious beliefs. i just dont belive it at all. i guess i just dont know much about gills so i'd have to see it to believe it

This is could be real. I have 'gills' and so does my father and grandmother. All people have primitive gills in the womb, which close over in normal development.
