Radio Living Room of Tomorrow (Aug, 1939)

Radio Living Room of Tomorrow

Simple in arrangement, and soft in color because of television, the suggested “radio living room of tomorrow” at the New York World’s Fair is open to visitors, who are permitted to inspect the various sight, sound and facsimile facilities while they are in operation.

  1. I don’t want to be a 20-20 hindsighter, but…
Shouldn’t the chairs be closer to the 12″ TV?
Should the movie screen be on the wall above and behind the TV?
I see the radio-fax. Not sure what the subject matter would be.
    CNN Headlines? Suduko?

  2. Interesting how home movie equipment and the TV are now combined today.

  3. Very Art Deco, I like.

jayessell: About radio-fax, think it as a primitive RSS feeder; whatever you subscribe from available content of that era.

  4. I suspect the faxes (faxi?) you recieve would be mostly interesting advertisements for products you want. LOL.

  5. When you think of it, many PCs are taking place of all these things, including the fax, phone, phonograph, radio, television, and home movies. My desk machine has a tv tuner card and is connected to the cable as well as the internet, and has a cd/dvd player/recorder and can read SD cards of my own photos and video.

    Alas, it’s not Danish/Deco/Bauhaus teak.

  6. My iPad does all this, and fits in my purse. O brave new world…

  7. Charlene: you get terrestrial TV on your iPad? What’d you do, duct tape a Casio TV-800 to it?

    :0)

And it’s still not Danish modern.

  9. Terrestrial TV? What’s that again?

(I kid: I don’t own a TV so I didn’t even think about that. I do have Netflix though.)
