Dog Tongs (Jul, 1960)
WHAT’S HE DOING?
QUESTION: What is this guy doing to the terrier—measuring him for a seersucker suit?
Clue: No. The answer is below, upside down.
ANSWER: What he’s doing, he’s using a pair of old-fashion dog longs on the dog. Dog tongs were kept in churches in Britain up to about 100 years ago, to remove dogs who fought or otherwise misbehaved during services. This set comes from a Welsh place of worship once attended by many shepherds’ dogs.

My new favorite saying for 2011: “Clue: No.”
That dog is unimpressed, to say the least.
I just love the phrase “dog tongs”.
