Expert Tastes Soap for a Living
TESTING soap by taste is one of the chief duties of Joseph Strobl, chief soap maker for a Los Angeles company. He samples the cooking product much like an expert chef. Chemical tests take too long at critical stages and are said to be less accurate than Strobl’s tongue.

He was let-go when automated measurement devices were introduced into the production line. He tried to find work as a taster for various food manufacturers but he was always fired when people would invariably complain to the company that their food tasted like soap. He finally found a steady job working for the development department of Proctor and Gamble.
