Yesterday I came across an old “I Love Lucy” episode where the usual gang were prospecting and found some Uranium. I didn’t watch too much but they were excited about their claim and how much money they could make. A stereotypical old prospector with the horse, the hat, the toothless grin and the beard came through their camp wonderin’ if they had any luck. Ricky and Fred had their Geiger counters clicking away and they were holding every piece of Uranium they found.

uranium ore — or, for that matter, metal — isn’t particularly dangerous unless ingested. half life in the billions of years, after all. some of its decay products are another matter, though; radon, for instance.

So I could use this to find Radon in my basement, what’s that worth?

hopefully no more than a standard radon detection kit, Hirudinea. i suspect your average geiger counter would be a fair bit more expensive.
