Light Me Up by Phone Some Time!

MERRIAM HOPKINS, Paramount motion picture star, has had installed at the studio a telephone which flashes a light instead of ringing the well-known bell.

This arrangement becomes necessary if a star or other picture employee expects phone calls while working in the sound-proof talkie studio.

Well, on the plus side, the phone would no longer directly ruin the vocal take, but on the minus side, it’d be enough of a distraction that the take would probably still be ruined anyway.

You’d think that a “motion picture star” would have her IMDb or Wikipedia entries be in the first page of Google results for her name…

Lanc – you’re not looking in the right place. http://www.imdb.com/nam…

God help us if Google and Wikibloodypedia become the ‘book of record’ for history.

Fluffy: You are correct. IMDB actually figured that out automagically, though.

Hey, Charlie! Got any early articles about “Soundex” name encoding? I think it was invented in about 1916 by some British Army officer. It’s great for sorting Mc’s and Mac’s and Merriams and Miriams.
