VIOLET-RAY LAMP PROBES NOSE TO CURE HAY FEVER

SUNBURNED backs, as all know, may now be had from a “health lamp”; but here we have a mercury-vapor lamp in a quartz rod, small enough to pass up the nose and sunburn its inside. Four out of five cases of “hay fever” are cured.

No wonder they had to use a drawing.

Of course, the Edgar Cayce crackpots still recommend this “therapy”.

I wonder if this is what inspired the amazing Purple Ray in the Wonder Woman comics…

I got sunburn on the “underside” of my nose once, as well as under my chin and ears – all places that rarely burn in normal conditions. Hurt like hell.

I was sailing in (and out) the harbour of Victoria BC on a remarkable sunny day, in a two-ton whaler (lifeboat) with a lateen sail. The reflection off the water burned while the spray and the breeze kept me cool enough not to notice.

It was fairly painful, and very annoying, as I kept trying to rub my nose or ears, only to receive a very unpleasant reminder not to.
