Wood Supplies Fuel for New Car (Sep, 1935)

Yup, that’s ultra modern. How long do you think it takes to get the wood-pile burning hot enough to drive the car?

Wood Supplies Fuel for New Car

THE old time wood pile is due to become the ultra-modern filling station of Germany following the recent perfection of a new automobile which consumes wood instead of gasoline.

The car uses about 75 pounds of wood in traveling 100 miles, and has a top speed of about 80 miles per hour.

The wood doesn’t actually burn, only almost as it’s combustible gases you want for the engine, not heat, and there’s not a lot of it reacting at the same time. About 10 min or a bit more when you first start I think I’ve heard people who used it say. Compared to the need to stop frequently to put in more wood chips it’s very not much, at least not on longer trips.
