An engaged couple candidly discusses the age-old problem of PREMARITAL RELATIONS

As told to SHIRLEY GUTTENTAG

WE SHOULD

He: To present my side of the argument it is necessary to start at the beginning. I first met Alice when her date at a party got drunk and I volunteered to drive her home. I didn’t see her again until I was invited to a party given by one of her friends—an invite I suspect was extended to me at Alice’s request. We had a few dates and I was always a gentleman—in fact the first time we kissed was on my birthday. Read the rest of this entry »

“The TRUTH about CAMPUS IMMORALITY”

By L. RICHARD BIRD

Do you believe in sex before marriage?”

- “Not if it delays the ceremony.”

This bit of banter took place on a popular national satire TV show. It served to point up a contemporary situation that exists on many college campuses today. Only since it has been brought to focus by publicity have many colleges or responsible adults attempted to solve the problem. It is a rather interesting situation when you consider that many of the adults who are so upset have had a hand in creating it. We shall discuss this point later.

What turns you on?

By Paul Wahl

Your taste in women may reveal some interesting things about your personality Men accept, and women are perhaps resigned to, the notion that breasts, buttocks, and legs are the body parts of women that are most attractive to men. Facial characteristics, it seems, rank no higher than 4th among the determinants of feminine sex appeal as evaluated by the average male.

HOW MEN AND WOMEN LOOK AT SEX

When it comes to matters of a sexual nature, it all depends on viewpoint—his or hers!

by Lester A Kirkendall, Ph.D.

Dr. Kirkendall, Professor of Family Life at Oregon State University, is author of “Sex Education as Human Relations,” “Premarital Intercourse and Interpersonal Relationships,” and many other writings.

Men and women cannot look at sex in the same way, but they are only dimly aware of this fact. The fact of being male or female means, inevitably, that sex will be seen from different points of view.

Nor does this promise to change! So long as men produce only the sperm which begins the entire reproductive process, and so long as women bear the children, these differences will exist.

EXTREMES IN SEX BEHAVIOR

by Ebe Alongi, M. D.

In sex — as in every other aspect of human endeavor — there are giants as well as pygmies.

IN most books on health written in the past, men were almost always advised to have only moderate sexual contact with women, if they wished to have physical and mental vigor. This advice was especially to be applied at certain times of life and in certain circumstances.

Dr. Alongi is assistant at the University Clinic for Nervous and Mental Illnesses of Naples University and, for a number of years has been Official Consultant on psychiatric and neurological problems of the Court of Justice and the District Court of Naples.

Even if one were to grant the correctness of this counsel, we run into difficulty. The moment we ask: “How many times in a month can a man safely sacrifice to the goddess of love?” we find that no one answer can be given for all men.

THE TRAGEDY OF THE EXHIBITIONIST

by B. H. Leveret, Ph.D., LL.B.

Sending a man to jail for indecent exposure is psychologically useless and socially unsound.

MY young secretary came into the office very much upset one morning and said to me: “This morning as I was coming in on the subway with several of my girl friends a terrible thing happened. We were standing near the door of the subway car. A man got out. Just before the train pulled out of the station, this man stepped up to the door and placing himself in front of the win-daw of the door, he proceeded to unbutton his trousers and show himself to us.”

“Poor fellow,” I said.

NUDISM THROUGHOUT THE WORLD

A first-hand account of the Naturist movement from the point-of-view of a practicing nudist.

by Ray Romaine

MY wife and I are nudists. During six years of traveling—which included circling of the globe from east to west via Australia and the Suez Canal—we participated in a wide variety of nudist activities.

In addition to a number in America, of which we have been members, we have visited nudist resorts in Australia, New Zealand, England, and Denmark; and we have been to two of the world’s countries where nudity is an accepted part of the culture.

ILLEGAL ABORTION … disease of society (Jan, 1959)

I’m always surprised at the quality and impartiality of Sexology’s articles. This article discusses a lot of the consequences of abortion being illegal that are just as applicable today. It’s interesting to note that nowhere in this article does does it mention the “right to life” or abortion being murder, the focal points of todays anti-abortion movement. One issue I did have is that the author seems to assume that all illegal abortions are done by doctors as opposed to hacks and back alley shysters. Obviously this makes a big difference in the quality of care and chance of complications.

ILLEGAL ABORTION … disease of society

An international conference tackles an explosive problem involving more than 1 million women each year.

by Isadore Rubin, B.A., M.S. in Ed.

ILLEGAL abortion in the United States is a “disease of society” affecting possibly as many as 1,200,000 women a year. It presents a problem “as real and urgent as did venereal disease three decades ago.”

These major conclusions were offered by thirty-eight of the nation’s foremost experts after an international conference on abortion, sponsored by the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The conference report has been published recently in book form.

So if you have a blood fetish it means you’re gay? I would think it means you just get turned on by blood. A little unsafe and outside the norm perhaps, but certainly no stranger than being turned on by tentacle porn.

Vampires are sick, psychiatrists assert

Human vampires do exist, according to two Denver psychiatrists, Drs. Richard L. Vanden Bergh and John F. Kelly. Rather than being “the undead,” the vampires are mentally ill. In the Archives of General Psychiatry, the two psychiatrists reported rare cases in which vampirism, or sucking another person’s blood, was part of a pattern of homosexual behavior.

YOUR LOOKS AND PERSONALITY

by Amram Scheinfeld
Condensed from a chapter of the book, The Human Heredity Handbook

Personality refers to all of a human individual’s behavior traits, plus all the other special qualities of mind, body, sex, and social adjustment that distinguish him as a particular person.

Second, personality refers to qualities developed by one person in relation to other persons. Strictly speaking, then, only human beings can be considered as having “personalities.” Although we might like to think that cats, dogs and other animals also have “personalities,” scientists prefer to speak of their traits as “behavior patterns.”
